CORD Protester Killed in Kisumu

One person has reportedly been shot dead in Kisumu city after protests by CORD supporters turned chaotic leading to violent running battles with the police.

Close to 20 others are nursing injuries at Jaramogi Oginga Referral and Kisumu County hospitals where they were admitted with gunshot wounds.

The demonstrations are said to have started at Kondele area with protesters marching towards the Central Business District (CBD).

However, things turned chaotic after a rowdy group joined the peaceful protesters and tried to gain entry into the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices.

This led to a scuffle between the anti-riot officers and the youth who allegedly attempted to loot shops at the CBD.

The demonstrators paralysed business in the lakeside City and blocked roads including the busy Kisumu-Nairobi highway with heaps of burning tyres.

Two weeks ago, at least 13 people were shot by police in different parts of the country during the anti-IEBC protests with a number succumbing to the injuries.

In Kisumu, one person lost his life at the Agha Khan Hospital with autopsy report revealing that he died from a bullet.
