Police Reveal Deadly Weapons CORD Protesters Plan to Use

Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome has stated that intelligence reports have revealed that a group of protestors is planning to use explosives during CORD’s demonstrations on Monday.

Addressing journalists on Sunday, Koome said police had established the identity of members of the group and the vehicle they intend to use to ferry the grenades.

“We have intelligence that some people have planned to deliver grenades to Kibera. Details of the vehicle and people behind the scheme are with the police,” Mr Koome said.

The Nairobi police boss warned that security agents would use necessary force to bar the planned demonstrations.

"I have enough officers for tomorrow's demonstration. If you have nothing to do in the city please sleep in your house," he said.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinett has issued a stern warning to CORD leaders against taking part in the anti-IEBC demonstration on Monday.

“Our responsibility is to enforce the law as it is if they disobey the law and go to the streets we, the National Police, will do what we are required to do,” Boinett said while addressing journalists at Diani Police Station on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Opposition leaders have vowed to stage their protests indicating that the court only barred storming of IEBC offices but not CORD demos.
