Court Bars Joho From Withdrawing Money in His 6 Bank Accounts

The High Court has barred Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho from withdrawing money in six of his bank accounts.

The court on Thursday stopped Joho from accessing the accounts in CFC Stanbic bank until the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) completes the assessment of his tax returns.

Earlier in the week, the Authority had directed the Bank to freeze the accounts and restrict any transfer, withdrawal or disposal of any money without its mandate or a directive from the court.

KRA issued the order on four Kenya Shillings accounts and two US Dollar ones for a period of ten days.

The directive was, however, condemned by the governor claiming that it was linked to the ongoing “harassment” by the government which started with investigations into his KCSE result slip.

The governor's woes continued to deepen on Wednesday after being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for grilling regarding the academic documents.

Speaking after the interrogation, Joho claimed that the police wanted to detain him and had already prepared a charge sheet but the plan was thwarted by the battery of lawyers that had accompanied him.
