Crude Weapons Nabbed in Homa Bay

Police on Monday nabbed a cache of weapons that were being transported to a meeting convened by a group of CORD members in Homa Bay County led by Governor Cyprian Awiti.

The weapons including clubs and a sword are said to belong to a politician who reportedly intended to disrupt the event to mobilise Opposition supporters to register as voters.

According to police officers, the weapons were confiscated just minutes before commencement of the meeting that was to be presided over by Governor Awiti.

The driver of the Toyota Probox transporting the crude weapons was apprehended two kilometres from the venue and was detained at Homa Bay Police Station.

Confirming the incident, Police Commander John Omusanga affirmed that a popular politician was behind the weapons.

“A local politician is behind this mischief. The intelligence information we have is that these weapons were going to be used to cause chaos during the meeting,” said Omusunga.

The Commander warned all politicians against interfering with peace especially as the August 8 elections approach.

"We are not going to give politicians room to cause violence in this county as elections approach and those caught will face the full force of the law,” added Omusunga.
