CS Matiang'i to Release 2016 KCPE Results

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has caught the nation by surprise following an announcement that results for the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Exams will be announced on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

Dr Matiangi is set to release the results alongside the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) CEO Prof George Magoha at 11.30am.

“The event will take place at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) on Murang’a Road Nairobi,” the press statement read in part

Over 950,000 pupils sat for the exam in over 10,000 primary schools across the country.

The release of the primary school examination results comes a day after secondary school candidates completed their KCSE examinations.

Earlier, Government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe divulged that the KCPE would be released after 8th December while the KCSE in mid-January 2017.

Surprisingly, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion and KUPPET officials noted that they learnt of the KCPE result announcement through the media.

“The demonstration is evidence that the ministry is committed to clean up the sector. This quick processing is the best thing that can happen to the country,” Sossion asserted.

The candidates who sat the 2016 KCPE exams will join secondary school in the first month of 2017, a change from the usual February entry.
