The body of a 6-year-old girl was on Sunday evening found inside a pit latrine in Laikipia East after she allegedly left home to get a haircut in readiness for school.
The girl's body was dressed in male adult trousers which police determined belonged to a flats' caretaker at Mung'etho Village. The officers said that the state of the body indicated that the minor could have been raped.
Michelle Wangari's body had blood oozing from her mouth, nose and eyes which according to police, showed that she may have been hit on the head with a blunt object before being dumped in the toilet.
According to area Police Boss Kege Kidiviai, neighbours found the body at 4pm, only six hours after the girl had left home. He warned parents against leaving small children unattended.
The caretaker was arrested and taken to Nanyuki Police Station while the girl's body was taken to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
