Deputy President William Ruto Accused of Failing to Give Harambee Money to Bungoma Schools

Three Schools in Bungoma County have accused Deputy President William Ruto of failing to honour a pledge he made during past fundraisers.

Headteachers of Milo, Sinoko and Tongaren Secondary schools accused Ruto of failing to send money he promised during the 2016 events.

The DP is said to have given the schools liquid cash during the harambees that were held in the respective institutions and promised to wire the balance to the schools' accounts.

Tongaren secondary school principal Biliah Lichuma divulged to a local daily that Ruto had given Sh2 Million in cash and was to send the balance of Sh1 Million but the school was yet to receive the cash.

"We are really under pressure from parents and the community who were present at the event and think we embezzled the funds," she stated.

She further indicated that efforts to reach the DP through the office of the Assistant Commissioner had been futile.

It was the same case at Milo where the DP promised to give Sh3 Million but only gave out sh1 Million in cash with the balance yet to reach the school's account.

The principal of the third school, Fred Kandawala, also stated that the Ruto made a similar pledge in his school but only gave Sh1 Million.

"We are still hoping the DP will heed to his pledge. We have lots of pressure coming from the board of management,"  he lamented.
