Don't Assent to Controversial Election Laws - Kalonzo Tells Uhuru

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta not to assent to the controversial Election Law (Amendment) Bill that was passed by Jubilee senators in parliament.

Addressing a press conference on Friday at Capitol Hill, Nairobi, Kalonzo pleaded with Kenyatta to consider the unity of the country before signing the bill.

“I want to urge the President not to drink from the poisonous chalice. He must reject this bad law in the interest of peace and for the good of our country,” Musyoka stated.

The former Vice President also announced that all CORD aspirants would meet next week on Wednesday to discuss on the way forward after the bill was passed.

“In view of all that has happened, I am calling upon all our aspirants in ODM, Wiper and Ford Kenya who are seeking to run for various seats to meet at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday to dialogue on the way forward,” Mr Musyoka said.

If the Head of State assents to the bill, the IEBC will be allowed to have a manual backup that will be used in voter identification in cases where the electronic system fails.

The Opposition has claimed that Jubilee is planning to use the manual system to rig votes in the August 8, Elections.
