DP Ruto Told to Keep Off Baringo Politics

Deputy President William Ruto has been warned to stop interfering with politics of Baringo County in the continuing rebellion being witnessed in the region.

A section of leaders from the county on Friday accused Ruto of meddling in the area by trying to impose aspirants for his own interest.

Led by KANU and ODM leaders, the residents urged Ruto to respect the will of Baringo people since they had decided on who they would support in 2017 elections.

"Ruto has been visiting Baringo and Bomet Counties, unfortunately, it has clearly been revealed that he is doing it for his own personal interests and not for the interest of the people," stated Amos Olempaka, an ODM aspirant.

In particular, they took issue with Ruto's recent declaration that he would support Simon Chelugui to vie for Baringo Senate seat against incumbent Gideon Moi.

Another leader, Erick Bett, wondered why Chelugui, who previously expressed interest in the gubernatorial seat had suddenly shifted to the senate seat.

According to Bett, this was an indication that an external force had influenced the move which they said was not the will of area electorates.

"We condemn anyone who think they can give us a line up of people to be elected. People of Baringo know who to elect and who to neglect," said Bett.

While hosting various leaders in his Sugoi home in Eldoret a week ago, Ruto is said to have assured his support for Chelugui claiming that Moi, who has openly differed with the DP, needed to be 'tamed'.
