DPP’s Case to Cancel Kuria’s Bail Postponed

A case in which the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) wants the bail in a hate speech case against Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria cancelled has been postponed.

DPP, Keriako Tobiko wants the Sh 2M bail stripped, accusing the legislator of breaching an earlier conciliation pact with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, The Nation reports.

Tobiko says Kuria failed to uphold the terms of the bail.

Kuria appeared in court today, where he is accused of three counts of incitement to violence, ethnic contempt and hate speech.

He made headlines when he was caught on tape telling youth to use pangas to cut those opposing the NYS and its projects.

He has however claimed that the statement was taken out of context.

In the case in which Tobiko wants the bail cancelled, Kuria is accused of linking Gikomba terrorist attacks to members of Luo and Somali communities.

The case was postponed to Monday, August 3rd this year.
