A Shopping mall in Nairobi's Eastleigh Estate was Tuesday morning under siege after the premises was attacked by armed thugs.
Four armed robbers are said to have broken into Sunrise Mall at around 3am trigerring the alarm. Police who arrived at the scene blockaded the mall sealing all exits to inhibit the robbers' escape.
The area was cordoned off as operations to flush out the raiders who had locked themselves inside the mall went on for hours.
Business was brought to a standstill as gunfire exchange ensued, with locals thronging the area to witness the operation.
One of the robbers was reportedly arrested, while three others managed to escape.
The mall is located in First Avenue Eastleigh in one of the busiest business street, Garissa.
This comes as the latest crime incident in Eastleigh area, which is best known for its booming business sector.
Last month six suspects, among them two GSU officers and a former police officer allegedly broke into a mall in Eastleigh – United Textile Mall – and made away with property worth millions.
