Esther Passaris Responds to Miguna Miguna's Rape Attack

Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Esther Passaris has responded to the offensive statements directed towards her by fellow candidate Miguna Miguna on Wednesday evening.

Passaris took to Twitter to complain about how she was treated on KTN's Jeff Koinange Show where Miguna stated “you (Passaris) are so beautiful, everybody wants to rape you.”

This was among several other sexual slurs directed towards her by the former special advisor to Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who insinuated that Passaris was “projecting herself merely as a woman” to seek sympathy in the City gubernatorial race.

The 2013 Women Representative candidate on Thursday tweeted: “I want to encourage women not to shy away from leadership for fear of victimization, character assassination & prejudices of patriarchy. Men like Miguna have no place or role to play in our empowerment. He is part of the problem”.

Passaris thanked all those who had supported her in condemning attacks towards her sexuality, adding that she would never relent in vying for the county's top job.

“The men and women who've strongly condemned how I was treated on JKL last night, thank you for being a beacon of light. I am even more determined to become the Governor of Nairobi to ensure citizens are not subjected to such ridicule,” she stated.

Miguna however, defended his words explaining that the rape statement which sparked online condemnation was done sarcastically.

He further accused Passaris of sparking the verbal exchange by falsely accusing him rape without substantiating the claims.
