EXPOSED: Hospital Where Patients Share Ward With Dead Bodies

A hospital in Kwale County is on the spot after patients complained that the staff allegedly leave corpses in the patient wards for extended periods leaving patients to share rooms with dead people.

Reports claim that staff at Msambweni sub-county hospital do not move bodies of patients who succumb to illnesses to the morgue for up to three days.

A complainant, who chose to remain anonymous said that the body of a relative who died in the facility recently stayed in the wards for a week despite their pleas for the body to be preserved in the mortuary.

“I witnessed several such cases in the one month I was attending to my ailing aunt who died last week,” the complainant told the People Daily.

But in a rebuttal, Hospital Superintendent Yakub Rubeya said that the hospitals patients are predominantly Muslim "who do not like bodies being taken to the mortuary.”

"Once such a person has died, we do not rush to take the body to the mortuary until relatives give consent,” she said.
