Factory Director, Barmaid Killed Near Police College

A tea factory Director was killed on Thursday night alongside a female employee, after thugs fired 40 rounds of ammunition at his vehicle in Nyeri County.

Peter Mwanga, a Director at Gathunguri tea firm, was reportedly driving past Kiganjo Police College when thugs began firing shots at his vehicle forcing him to steer off the road.

According to Kieni East police boss Michael Mbaluku, the gunmen later went into the car and shot the two occupants to ensure they were dead .

The woman, who was working as a barmaid in one of Mr Mwangi's businesses, died on the spot while Mr Mwangi succumbed to injuries upon arrival in hospital, according to Kieni East Deputy Commissioner, James Chacha.

Their bodies were taken to Nyeri County Referral Hospital.

This comes barely a week after three other businessmen were attacked in Nyeri but narrowly escaped. One of the men suffered a gun shot wound on his left cheek after he was robbed loads of cash and a gun.

“We are living in fear because it is clear that there are people targeting us,” businessman Njoroge Wainaina said.
