Farouk Kibet Admits Receiving Part of NYS Loot

A close aide to Deputy President William Ruto has confirmed receiving part of the proceeds of the stolen NYS funds.

In an affidavit submitted to the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC), Farouk Kibet stated that he received Sh2 Million as a soft loan from Ben Gethi whom he claimed was an acquittance.

Kibet added that the soft loan was meant to assist his friend who was receiving treatment in India.

“I knew Ben Gethi in the course of general interactions in business in Nairobi,” Kibet stated on his relationship with Gethi.

At the same time, Ruto’s aide denied knowing the key suspect in the scandal, Josephine Kabura, despite the fact that she sent Sh 500,000 to his account.

On this contradiction, Kibet explains that he had asked Gethi for the money and was unaware that his account had received any money from Kabura unti the time he was aksed to record a statement with the police.

Ironically, as he claimed to have been in need of Sh2 Million to assist the unnamed patient, Mr Kibet had Sh6.9 Million in his account. At the time of the second deposit, he had Sh12.19 million in the account.

The loyal aide stated that he was not involved in any other business apart from being an aide to the DP and engaging in part-time farming.

“I don’t do any other business other than (being) the PA (personal assistant to Mr Ruto) and a farmer,” Mr Kibet stated in a separate statement made to the police and attached to his submission to PAC.

The revelations are likely to elicit political heat as ODM politicians have been calling on the PAC to summon Ruto's aides including Kibet and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Farouk Kibet.
