Former Assistant Minister Beatrice Kones Accuses Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto of Funding Her Son to Fight Her

Former Home Affairs assistant minister and Bomet East parliamentary aspirant Beatrice Kones, has accused Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto of sponsoring his son to sabotage her political ambitions.

The widow of former Cabinet minister Kipkalya Kones, accused Governor Ruto of manipulating his first born son Kevin Kipngetich Kalya to stand on a Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) ticket for the same seat she was seeking.

Ms Kones alleged that Ruto was using her son Kalya to gain political mileage by fighting her politically in a bid to disintegrate her family.

“I have no doubt in my mind that Ruto is using my son to fight me politically as part of a wider scheme to make sure there is no one politically active in my family because he wants to take over as a Kipsigis spokesman

“Ruto wants to see my family disintegrate so that he does not face any challenge in his bid to rule the Kipsigis politics,” said Kones.

She added that the scheme by Ruto to use her son took shape after she rejected his offer to stand on a CCM ticket.

“Ruto expected me to vie on CCM so that his party looks strong because of my political strength, but after I abandoned his camp he started working sleeplessly to bring me down,” noted Kones.

The former MP warned also her son that his CCM bid to run against her was a double edged sword since Ruto would also destroy his future in politics.

Kones, however, expressed optimism that her son Kalya would see the writing on the wall after she won the Jubilee primaries for the seat by a huge margin and step down to back her candidature.

The once powerful Kipkalya Kones died in a plane crash on June 10, 2008, at Kojong'a area of Nairegi-Enkare in Narok North alongside Lorna Laboso, sister to Joyce Laboso-Bomet County Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant.
