Former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua's Brother, Rigathi Gachagua, Wins Jubilee Ticket for Mathira Parliamentary Seat

Former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua's brother, Rigathi Gachagua, was on Thursday morning declared the Jubilee party candidate for the Mathira parliamentary seat.

Mr Gachagua managed to garner 29,215 votes with his closest competitor, Wambura Maranga, getting 25,737.

The new entrant to politics successfully ousted incumbent MP, Peter Weru, who had been elected to the post on a Jubilee ticket in the 2013 General Election.

The sitting lawmaker managed 805 votes in the primaries that were held on Wednesday.

In late March, Rigathi revealed that he had decided to vie for the parliamentary seat and the gubernatorial one as had been expected, after wide consultations with family, friends and political advisors.
