Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo Shamed in Public by Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga on Tuesday publicly shamed Raila Odinga's cousin, Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo, by calling him a 'dying horse'.

Governor Rasanga was refuting claims by the Gem MP that he has been using Siaya County Government vehicles with concealed number plates to campaign for his re-election in the full knowledge of county security officers.

The Siaya Governor condemned the attack and termed it awkward indicating that Midiwo was seeking sympathy from the public after sensing defeat.

"Those are the kicks of a dying horse; he has realised his competitors in Gem are going to defeat him and has resorted to peddling malice about me," Rasanga retorted.

The Governor reasoned that Midiwo's claims were insubstantial and ill-informed.

"How does he claim all vehicles in Siaya without number plates belong to the county? The last time I checked, all county vehicles had number plates," he argued.

He justified the use of the government vehicles by asserting that he was going around the county to inspect development projects.

"If Midiwo thinks moving around to inspect county projects with county vehicles is a form of campaigning, he needs to be informed that the official campaign period has not yet begun," Rasanga told the press on Tuesday.

Midiwo had also alleged that the county boss was using the government vehicles to ferry goons and dangerous weapons to conduct illegal activities, an accusation to which the Governor responded with a dare.

"Why should I move around with goons and dangerous weapons when I have been assigned two official bodyguards by the government? Why can't Midiwo report the matter to police?" asked Rasanga.
