Government Investigating Senior Politicians Linked to Grabbing of School Land – Matiang’i Says

Anxiety has gripped senior politicians in Kenya after Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced that some of them are being investigated for alleged land grabbing of school land.

Speaking in Kisii Catholic Church on Sunday, Matiang’i stated that action will be taken if any of the politicians linked to grabbing of school land is found guilty.

“The government will not sit and watch as individuals ruin the future of Kenyan children by grabbing land,” the Education CS said.

The no-nonsense CS said once the investigations are concluded, the report will be made public. Dr Matiang'i urged school principals and County Directors of Education to remain firm in defending their school boundaries.

Matiang’i's announcement comes barely three weeks after he expressed concern over the increasing grabbing of public school land in the country.

The CS noted that most schools had lost land to grabbers through cartels and County Government officials who help in facilitating the illegal exercise.

“These are some of the things we must resist because they have adverse effects on the future of our children,” Matiang’i said during the function that was held at Makini Schools on January 15.
