Government to Relocate 10 Schools Demolished During Construction of SGR

The Government on Wednesday announced plans to permanently relocate ten public schools that were demolished to pave way for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

Making the announcement, Kenya Railway Corporation (KR) Managing Director Atanas Maina, said that six of the schools were in Kwale, three in Makueni and one in Kajiado.

"KR has through relevant stakeholder involvement identified various public institutions affected by the project and that require to be relocated to permanent locations. KR therefore intends to procure building contractors for the construction of these facilities and hereby invites eligible firms to submit their bids," Mr Maina stated. 

The schools include:

Kwale County 

1. Mwamdudu Secondary School

2. Mpirani Primary School

3. Mariakani Roman Catholic Primary School

4. Julani Primacy School

5. Samburu Secondary School

6. Mgalani Primary School

Makueni County

1. Kiboko Primary School

2. St Agnes Kiboko Secondary School 

3. Ngwata Primary school in Makueni County

Kajiado County

1. Masimba Secondary School 

Pupils and students in the said schools had been learning in temporary structures as the government sought for places to relocate them.
