Government Withdraws Joho and Kingi's Bodyguards

The government has withdrawn the security detail of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi.

The revelations were made on Saturday afternoon though details of why the guards were taken away remained scanty.

Addressing the press, six Coast ODM leaders gave a two-day ultimatum for the aides to be restored, declaring that they would hold the government solely responsible for any "misfortune or security breaches".

Confirming the incident, County Communications Director Richard Chacha said the guards were withdrawn on Friday evening.

The move came a day after the two governors accused the Jubilee administration of taking credit for old projects which it had not launched.

While President Uhuru Kenyatta was launching development projects in Mombasa on Thursday, Joho took to the podium arguing that most of the initiatives being commissioned by the government had been sponsored by the World Bank.

The ODM deputy leader maintained that his people had not benefited from the Jubilee administration challenging Kenyatta to launch new projects in the county.

A day later, Kingi claimed that the state had hijacked a Sh2.3 Billion project which was funded by the same Bank.

According to the Governor, the Baricho Lot 2 water project, which the Head of State is set to launch next week, was being financed by the Bank through Kilifi County government.
