Governor accused of “Cheating on” Elective Party

A war of words was sparked in Mombasa County on Thursday after the Members of County Assembly accused Governor Ali Hassan Joho of being unfaithful to his party, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The MCAs noted that the Governor has never been around whenever party leader Raila Odinga visited the Coastal City, adding more evidence into speculations that he would be joining the ruling coalition Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP).

“Chairman, let no one deceive you. There is no coincidence that whenever you come here, somebody is in London always. These guys are not with you. They are lying to you,” said Kongowea MCA Jabess Oduor in reference to Governor Joho.

The MCAs who called the press conference at Mamba Village Centre Mombasa, included Dan Onyango (Mikindani), Mohamed Ndanda (Kadzandani) and Paul Onje (Junda). They had accompanied Nyali MP Hezron Awiti to the conference.

Mr Joho responded to the allegations by stating that he would not participate in the altercation.

“The Governor cannot pick a fight with MCAs, Oduor can go fight with his colleagues,” Mr Joho's aide Idris Abdirahman hit back.

The MCAs complained that Mr Joho had spent too much time travelling for the past one year instead of serving Mombasa residents.

The last time Opposition leader Mr Odinga visited the Coastal City on October 3, the Governor was supposedly in New York.

It was noted that he was also absent during the controverial 'Teachers' solidarity' rally at Uhuru Park and was reportedly in Saudi Arabia when Mr Odinga visited Mombasa for an Iftar dinner hosted by Senator Hassan Omar in July.

In the mean time, MCA Oduor declared that they had formed a shadow cabinet to keep the County Government in check with Awiti being the ‘Governor’,  Oduor the ‘Prime Minister’ and Halima Rashid the ‘Woman representative’.
