Six guns and over 400 rounds of ammunition were reduced to ashes in a deadly fire that broke out at a police station in Naivasha.
The fire which broke out on Saturday morning at Longonot Police Station along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway, consumed the whole station that also stored court files and communication gadgets.
The inferno was fueled by strong night wind which spread it to the cells and officers houses completely destroying them.
Naivasha Police boss Titus Mathuku confirmed the unfortunate event but assured that nobody was injured.
“Several guns and ammunition were also destroyed but no one was hurt,” he stated.
An officer at the station said that the incident might have been caused by electric fault due to power outages which had rocked the area.
“The lights kept on flickering prior to the fire incident, which started at the wooden report office and spread quickly to the adjacent houses,” he explained.
Witnesses divulged that they failed to handle the raging inferno as area fire engines arrived after damage had already been caused.
“We tried all we could but the strong wind, coupled by the wooden structures, made it impossible to put out the fire. The fire was very intense making it hard to contain it and we suspect an electric fault could have caused it," the officer said.
