Former National Assembly speaker Kenneth Marende has hit headlines after he held a private meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga in Bondo on Monday.

Marende is on Tuesday expected to declare whether he will vie for any political post and which party he is set to join. 

Mombasa Gubernatorial Race

The Mombasa Gubernatorial race has become the centre of attraction after Deputy President William Ruto declared that businessman Suleiman Shahbal will be the Jubilee candidate to face incumbent Hassan Joho. 

The apparent endorsement of Mr Shahbal is set to tighten the battle for the Mombasa Governor's seat which is also being eyed by Senator Hassan Omar.

Political pundits have termed the contest a three-horse race.

Kalonzo Musyoka 

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been the subject of a heated political debate after speculations emerged that he could be heading to Jubilee. 

Amid the speculations, a section of Wiper leaders led by Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama have now warned Kalonzo not to dare leave the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Criminal Libel Declared Unconstitutional

High Court Judge John Mativo on Monday declared unconstitutional a section of the Penal Code that criminalised some aspects of libel and defamation. 

Mr Mativo found that Section 194 of the Penal Code was archaic as it prescribed heavy criminal sanctions for the civil offences of libel and defamation while suppressing freedom of expression.

This ruling came as a huge reprieve to journalists and bloggers who had been having a hard time reporting on matters afflicting the powerful in society.

KMPDU Officials

Officials of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union (KMPDU) are on Tuesday appearing before the Senate Health Committee to deliberate on how to end the over two months long strike by the doctors 

Donald Trump 

US President Donald Trump was on Monday banned from addressing Parliament during his State visit to the UK by the Speaker of the House of Commons. 

The speaker, John Bercow, said that he was “strongly opposed” to Mr Trump speaking in the Commons as he stressed that being invited to address Parliament was “not an automatic right” but “an earned honour”. The UK is opposed to Sexist and racism.   

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday left tongues wagging after he extended his medical leave in London after staying there for two weeks

The extension raised concerns in Nigeria with most fearing that his health could be deteriorating.

President Yoweri Museveni 

President Yoweri Museveni on Monday condemned rape stating that rapists deserved to be killed.

Speaking during the Tarehe Sita Anniversary Celebrations at Boma Grounds, in Uganda, Museveni said, “A rapist is a killer and he deserves to be killed."

President John Magufuli

President John Magufuli has continued his fight against illegal drug business in Tanzania after he told security officers to target drug traffickers.

“Anybody implicated in the illicit trade should be arrested and prosecuted,” Magufuli affirmed.

Prominent musicians including Diamond Platnumz and Vanessa Mdee were invited to appear before the country’s investigative agency for suspicion of drug trafficking.
