Hospital Ward MCA Aspirant - Geoffrey Okuto Arrested for Shooting in Public

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCA aspirant Geoffrey Okuto was on Monday arrested over accusations of irresponsibly using his gun in public.

The MCA aspirant for Hospital Ward - Mathare constituency, is said to have opened fire at a group of his supporters after violent protests broke out.

The licensed firearm holder reportedly drew his gun and shot in the air several times to disperse the crowd that had turned rowdy after clashing with supporters of his opponent Kennedy Onam.

The supporters who had earlier in the day agreed to work together started throwing stones at each other following reports alleging that Onam had endorsed Okuto.

Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome stated that Okuto was being held at the Muthaiga Police Station would be charged with misusing his gun. 

"It was not necessary for him to shoot at that point," he noted.

Both politicians recorded statements after the incident.
