How Anti-Radicalization Movements by Youth are Changing Eastleigh's Narrative

Former radicalized youth in Nairobi's Eastleigh estate have taken to actively campaigning against radicalization in the area.

They have joined initiatives that work hand in hand with the government as a move fight both radicalization and terrorism.

Eastleigh is heavily populated by Somalis, making it fertile ground for terror agents seeking to radicalize young people into outlawed groups such as Al Shabaab.

Most young people who have been recruited into the groups did so with little knowledge of what exactly they are getting themselves into.

As such, youth in Eastleigh are coming up with crusades and campaigns aimed at empowering youngsters with information on viable career choices, handling peer pressure and other pertinent issues as a way of protecting them from radicalization.

The groups also take in members who had been recruited into extremist groups.

The former radicals now preach peace to their peers.
