How Kenya Rugby Team Will be Welcomed at JKIA

The Kenya Rugby Sevens national team, Shujaa, will Tuesday afternoon jet back into the country to a grand reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Senior State Officials will be lined up to receive the Kenyan Champions, who Sunday glorified the country after winning the main cup in Singapore for the first time, a performance that not only got the world talking but went down in the history books.

Upon touching down at 2.30pm, the Kenyan boys will walk down an impeccable red-carpet laid down by their sponsors, Kenya Airways.

The Shujaas will be treated to a rare fete marked by song and dance courtesy of various traditional dancers.

After celebrations at JKIA, the Kenya 7s will be chauffeured aboard top-of-the-range vehicles to the Ole Sereni Hotel, where Kenya Airways will host the Jubilant players to a luncheon at the hotel’s poolside from 3.30pm.

The reception of the Kenyan boys will be taken over by the Ministry of Sports, Kenya Airways and Sports Kenya with the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) being forced to take a back seat in the afternoon activity, the Standard reports.

The Rugby team will be received by Senior State Officials led by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario, Sports Development Principal Secretary Richard Ekai Titus, Kenya Airways (sponsor) Chief Executive Officer Mbuvi Ngunze and the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Richard Omwela.

Reports indicate that President Uhuru Kenyatta will not be at the team’s arrival as he is held up at the Cabinet retreat in Naivasha.

However, the Head of State is set to host the entire Kenya Sevens team in State House at a later time.

In the Sunday match, the Shujaa clinched an emphatic 30-7 victory against Fiji, topping the Singapore leg of the World Sevens Series.
