How Kenyans on Twitter are Helping Brave Student Fight for His Life

Kenyans have began an immense campaign on social media to help save the life of a university student battling cancer.

Thanks to Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) who are determined to get the message to as many people as possible, #1MilliForJadudi has trended for two days now.

Emmanuel Jadudi is a third-year University of Nairobi student whose life is now hanging on the balance as he has a cancerous tumor known as Grade III Ependymoma in his brain.

The political science and sociology student was diagnosed with the tumor in 2012.

He has so far undergone surgeries that have cost his family over Sh5 million.

The tumor has completely changed the life of Jadudi -once a carefree, university student with dreams and a whole life ahead- like his peers.

Simple tasks are no longer so easy, his speech is slurred and he shuffles around.

Jadudi, however, is a fighter who fights for both his life and those of others.

He has been attending classes in college and has been reaching out to people with influence, urging them to use the platforms they have, to teach the public about brain tumors.

One such person was Jackson Biko (Biko Zulu), an award winning blogger who heard Jadudi's plea and told the story on his blog.

Biko and a few other people on social media also broke to Kenyans the news that Jadudi requires yet another surgery in India.

Having exhausted all their resources, his family cannot raise the Sh1 million required by Saturday 8th.

A social media campaign for the funds drive was started under the hash tag #1MilliForJadudi.

The twitter page  #1MilliForJadudi, created for the same cause, currently has over 1,280 followers.

When asked what he sort of help he wanted most, Jadudi told Biko“ I still want to fight. Please stand by me.”

The sheer determination to fight is perhaps the driving force behind the immense support KOT have accorded Jadudi, hoping that more and more people will answer the call of a young man, desperately fighting for his life.

The Africa Cancer Foundation has opened an account through which donations for Jadudi’s treatment can be made; the M-Pesa pay bill number is 806200 (leave slot for ‘Account Number’ blank)
