How You Can Send Money to Uganda Via M-Pesa to Help Stella Nyanzi Campaign

A Ugandan lecturer has sent out an urgent appeal to Kenyans and other interested parties in a campaign that has attracted overwhelming support.

Dr Stella Nyanzi, who is a lecturer at Makerere University, on Monday announced the launch of the campaign where she seeks to help collect millions of sanitary pads for Ugandan girls.

Nyanzi, who is especially popular for her vocal and critical stand on leaders, stated that she would collect the items on Tuesday calling on everyone from Kenya, Uganda and the neighbouring countries to assist the drive either in a material form or monetary wise.

“Bring one pad, ten pads, one packet of pads, ten packets of pads, a box of pads, ten boxes of pads, a lorry full of sanitary pads. Let us collect one million sanitary pads, for starters, and distribute them! Then ten million…,” she wrote.

“For those who would want to make mobile-money contributions, please send the funds to 0771824117. Please replace the (0) with (+256) for contributions from abroad,” she requested

The campaign, which was announced on social media, was backed by a majority of people who congratulated her for the move while others expressed their willingness to support the drive.

However, a section of Kenyans seemed unsure of how they would send money to the Ugandan-based lecturer and assist in the drive.

To achieve this, you can use the recently unveiled International Monetary Transfer service, courtesy of Safaricom, in which M-Pesa users in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda will now be able to send and receive money across the region.

With the new service, the sender must be a Safaricom subscriber and registered on M-Pesa, while recipients in Uganda and Rwanda must be registered on Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) and Vodacom in Tanzania.

For you to send money from Kenya to Uganda and Rwanda, you dial *840# on your phone and then follow instructions.
