I Will Not Join NASA - Bomet Governor Ruto Says

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has announced that he will not join the National Super Alliance (NASA) that has been fronted by Opposition leaders.

Speaking on Thursday to a local daily, Ruto stated that he would be hosting the team led by Raila Odinga on Saturday in Bomet County but made it clear he would not join the alliance.

“The claims that I will join NASA are incorrect. People are just speculating. I have not made such a statement,” Mr Ruto was quoted.

The Governor further added that his people would support a party that had a clear development plan for them.

"We have always told President Uhuru Kenyatta that we support him... but he might be in for a rude shock during the August general election if he continues sending us political brokers to intimidate, abuse and disrespect us," Mr Ruto warned.

Ruto’s sentiments come after Odinga announced on Tuesday that they would hold rallies across the country beginning with Ruto's county.

“We will be guests of Governor Isaac Ruto,” Mr Odinga stated.

Speculations had been rife that the Bomet Governor would officially join NASA on Saturday after ditching Jubilee in 2016. He has been working closely with Mr Odinga and attending Opposition rallies.

Opposition leaders Odinga, Moses Wetangula, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi have since formed a 12-man team to pick the flag bearer after launching NASA.
