Ida Odinga Reveals Shameful Things Police Did to Raila

The fact that ODM leader Raila Odinga is one of Kenya’s longest serving political detainees is not in doubt.

However, many are ignorant of the pain that the detainees were subjected to for challenging the KANU regime.

Kenyans.co.ke encountered a transcript of a rare interview that Ida Odinga had with the Voice of Kenya – while her husband Raila was in prison.

“I know he was immersed chest deep in cold water for a long time, many days without food or water, and no toilet facilities. You just perform your natural functions in the water you are immersed in...You are beaten especially at the back of your head without knowing who is beating you,” Ida narrated.

The dejected wife added that her husband had been put in solitary confinement where he had zero contact with any human being – making him unable to tell day or night.

"The guards are so harsh. They are just like zombies. They don't talk. What they do is just look at you and any attempt to talk to them increases the days of confinement and....and...please let us not talk about it,'' an emotional Ida recalled Raila's experiences amid tears.

Like any dear wife would Ida narrated that she had pleaded with her husband to keep off politics as a result of the harsh treatment he was receiving.

''First and foremost Raila had never been a politician, he is basically an engineer. It is the government that pushed him into politics against his will...I have tried to prevail upon him several times but Raila is entitled to his thinking. I can't change him from that,” Ida revealed.
