IEBC Chairman Issack Hassan's Driver in Court Over Human Trafficking

The driver of outgoing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Issack Hassan and an Administration Police officer were on Monday arraigned in court over human trafficking.

Mohamed Mokorane and Ahmed Hussein were charged at Kibera Law Courts over attempting to ferry illegal immigrants using Hassan's car.

The two were accused that on November 23 at the IEBC headquarters in Anniversary Towers, they planned to transport the aliens from Garissa to Eastleigh.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Elizabeth Juma, the suspects denied the charges and were released on a Sh500,000 bond.

The case will be heard again on January 27.

The suspects had earlier been arrested but did not take a plea with police being given more time to carry out proper investigations.

The IEBC boss and eight other Commissioners, despite handing in their resignation letters to President Uhuru Kenyatta, are yet to leave office.

They have time and again maintained that they would only quit once new officials are appointed.
