Over 16,000 people will be contesting in the upcoming August 8 General Election, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has revealed.
In a press statement on Monday morning, the IEBC announced that the political parties had uploaded 11,309 candidates on the Candidate Registration Management System CRMS by the 14th May deadline.
The list excluded 4,950 candidates had already registered to vie as independent candidates, which brings the total number of aspirants to 16,259.
The electoral Commission further indicated that they would meet with all aspirants on 23rd May for a Pre-nomination meeting at their respective electoral areas. All presidential aspirants will have a meeting with the IEBC in Nairobi on the same day.
