Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) Raila Odinga has demanded investigations be conducted against Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
Speaking during the mobilisation of voter registration in Western Kenya, Odinga accused Matiang'i of “spoiling the future of children” due to the mass failure witnessed in the 2016 KCSE results.
Odinga claimed that the CS was part of the government plan to disrupt the academic future of candidates, while he (Matiang'i) takes fame for the same.
According to the Opposition leaders, the examination figures showed only 15 per cent of the candidates would proceed to universities and that it "tells us there is something wrong”.
“Now one person is being celebrated for making radical changes to curb cheating in exams. Matiang’i should be investigated because he is spoiling the future of our children. If all these students failed in their exams does it mean that in the past schools recorded good results mainly because of cheating?" he posed.
Odinga made the demands even after the Cabinet Secretary defended the Ministry and dismissed any possibilities of recalling the results.
At the same time, the ODM chief called on his supporters to turn up in large numbers and enlist as voters to ensure the Opposition emerges victorious in the August polls.
He declared that it was time to send the Jubilee government packing, maintaining that the only way was to have many of his supporters enlisted as voters.
