IPSOS Releases New Presidential Opinion Poll

CORD leader Raila Odinga's popularity has sharply declined while President Uhuru Kenyatta's has increased, according to an opinion poll released on Wednesday.

In the poll by research firm IPSOS, only 22 per cent of Kenyans expressed interest in voting for Odinga if the Presidential election was held today.

On the other hand, the poll conducted between 17th and 19th December indicated that 50 percent of Kenyans would support President Kenyatta.

The survey further showed that 51 percent of those interviewed were in support of Jubilee while 27 percent expressed their loyalty for the CORD coalition.

A previous poll conducted in August indicated that 30 percent of Kenyans had faith in Mr Odinga especially on the issue of fighting corruption and defending the Constitution.

Despite fellow Opposition leaders Moses Wetangula, Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka being presidential candidates, Kenyatta surprisingly is the most popular aspirant in the Western and Eastern region where the three hail from respectively.

The survey showed that if Kalonzo was to contest for the country's top job today, he would only get 2%, Mudavadi 1% while Wetangula would garner 0% of the votes.

Interestingly, the poll shows that President Kenyatta maintains a strong lead in seven out of the eight former provinces including in some Opposition strongholds such as Coast, North Eastern, Western and Eastern.
