Controversy is brewing between Isiolo County Government and the residents, led by local Non-Governmental Organizations, over alleged plans to lease out 3 major game parks in the area.
Isiolo county governor Godana Doyo is reportedly leading talks with officials of African Parks - an international wildlife conservation group.
According to a Standard report , the county government intends to lease out Buffalo Springs, Shaba and Bisanadi game reserves to African Parks for 99 years.
Officials of local Non-Governmental Organisations have, however, vowed to move to court to block the deal.
The NGOs have faulted the deal noting that the residents have not been consulted.
Salad Tutana, an official of Merti Integrated Development Project (Mid-P) has noted that "If this deal goes through, Kenya will be the eighth country in Africa to do so.
He cautioned that DR Congo and Central Africa Republic have leased out game parks and failed miserably.
