Jane Mukami Accuses US Government of Neglecting Her Brother Who Committed Suicide

A Kenyan woman has criticised the United States (US) government for their slow response that led to the death of her brother.

Popular fitness trainer Jane Mukami, through a Facebook post, revealed that her sibling, identified as Stephen had committed suicide on Thursday evening.

Mukami narrated how her brother who was a former US soldier had seemingly developed psychological issues that eventually led to his death.

She laid the blame on the US government for neglecting Stephen, despite her family's frequent pleas for their kin to be helped.

Ms Mukami recalled that her brother's situation had turned for the worst a year ago after he cut communication with his family and started living an isolated life prompting them to seek assistance.

“I'm angry because ever since we discovered he had possible ptsd/psychological issues we reached out on numerous occasions to the VA, Cobb County police, Cobb County Court system, The Kenyan Embassy in DC, The US Embassy in Nairobi,” she stated.

She added that the brother had sent several suicide messages which she showed to the authorities for him to be admitted to a rehabilitation centre, but they completely ignored the situation which eventually ended with the tragic death.

“I begged them to check him into rehab or do anything that would help get him back on track…all I got back was 'Sorry ma’am unless he does something drastic, there is nothing we can do. He is an adult we cannot force him. Unless he takes himself to get help, we cannot be of help,” she complained.

She expressed that maybe her brother would have been alive if quick action was taken by the US government.

“So now I ask America, Was him committing suicide drastic enough for you? I no longer have a brother, and all because laws + the system didn't 'allow' us to step in and help,” she sobbed.
