Joho Vows to Expose KDF Soldiers Being Used to Rig Elections

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Tuesday swore to name Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers allegedly working in cahoots with the Jubilee Government to manipulate the upcoming General Election.

Speaking in Kilifi during a voter registration drive, Joho claimed that civil servants were also part of the ploy adding that he was ready to mention their names if they do not retract.

"They have turned KDF officers, NIS, police and civil servants into Jubilee campaigners. Let them be warned that we are taking their names and will reveal you. Don’t dare steal votes and if you do, we will deal with you ruthlessly. Things will be bad,” Joho said.

The Mombasa Governor spoke after CORD leader Raila Odinga who also alleged that the Government was secretly using the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to register foreigners as voters ahead of the upcoming General Election.

"We have credible information that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) is once again heavily involved in the on-going voter registration with the aim of influencing results in August in the same way it did in 2007 and 2013," Odinga said

Mr Odinga noted that the spy agency was taking BVR kits across the Kenyan borders and registering Ugandans and Ethiopians.

"NIS interference in the current voter registration involves taking BVR kits across our borders into Uganda and Ethiopia and assisting citizens of the two countries to register in a Kenyan election process. The agency is also assisting citizens of these neighbouring countries to acquire Kenyan identification documents then helping them cross into Kenya and register as voters," he added.

Meanwhile, the government has vehemently denied claims that any foreigners are being enlisted to vote in the upcoming polls.

The Ministry of Interior spokesman, Mwenda Njoka, described Odinga's claims as outrightly malicious and meant to undermine the voter registration process.

Njoka noted that Odinga should have provided enough evidence to substantiate the allegations, and if so, record a statement regarding the same.

On his part, President Uhuru Kenyatta, while addressing Kirinyaga residents, rubbished Odinga's allegations adding that they were meant to create chaos since he had sensed defeat.

“These claims he is making that we are registering foreigners are just a ploy to cause chaos and reject results if he loses elections. Let us send him home by 6 am," stated Kenyatta.
