President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday suffered a major blow after Jubilee party nominees in Baringo rejected his endorsement by KANU, stating that the independence party was long dead.
The nominees led by Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament Moses Lessonet, stated that KANU's support was inconsequential since its reign was over and there was no way the party could be revived.
"We are telling Kenyans that KANU is dead and long gone...we don't recognize it anymore, Jubilee has taken over the county and KANU is no longer on the people's minds," he stated.
Mr Lessonet also dismissed the other parties that had not merged into Jubilee but vowed to support the President like Peoples Development Reforms(PDR) and Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) terming them as vague and only emerging.
According to the legislator, members of the said parties and independent candidates "will be far away at the fence while those in government share meat from inside".
The legislator was speaking at the Baringo Agricultural Show Grounds Kabarnet town where Baringo Gubernatorial aspirant Stanley Kiptis unveiled Jacob Chepkwony, a former lecturer of economics at the University of Eldoret, as his running mate.
Mr Lessonet's dismissal of KANU comes only a week after the independence party led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi endorsed Uhuru as their presidential candidate.
