The Jubilee Party (JP) has urged all its members to validate their membership as it prepares to launch a mega registration exercise next week.
JP Vice Chairman David Murathe on Friday stated that it was important for all supporters to confirm their affiliation to the party to avoid infiltration by outsiders.
As part of plans to solidify its support, the party is set to launch a smart membership card acquisition exercise to ensure it has an electronic database of its members.
Murathe, further informed Jubilee members that only those who would have the cards will participate in the nomination exercise set for February, in order to ensure free and fair primaries.
To acquire the smart card, supporters will need to part with Sh20 and must first be registered as voters, since the card is connected to IEBC and the Registrar of Political Parties database.
“This is not just any other registration, you will use your phone to activate your card. We want to ensure that our members are not just members. They must be people who are registered as voters and officially as JP members,” said the party official.
The card will contain the holder's name, mobile and identity number and the system will have the capability to identify people belonging to other political parties.
“If you are a member of another party and try to register through our card system, it will prompt you to respond to questions like ‘sorry you are a member of another political party, do you wish to resign and register as a JP member?” stated Murathe.
Sources indicate that the exercise will be inaugurated next Friday by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the party headquarters in Nairobi.
