Jubilee Party Postpones Issuance of Nomination Certificates Pending Appeals at Tribunal

Jubilee Party (JP) has changed to dates of issuing nomination certificates to successful aspirants who won in the just concluded primaries.

Speaking at the Jubilee headquarters on Friday, the party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju stated that the process of issuing certificates to successful aspirants had been put on hold.

“We were supposed to be ready today (Friday) and we want to ask for the indulgence of even those who were unopposed just to be a little bit patient because we will be making an announcement when we will be issuing those certificates,” said Tuju.

Tuju revealed that the party had instead embarked on the process of hearing appeals challenging the outcome of the nominations exercise.

“Our process of handing out nomination certificates is very thorough because we want to be sure there’s no appeal and that figures are such that there’s no dispute or even if there’s a dispute the benefit of doubt is such that you have really won the nomination,” he added.

He reiterated that the issuance of nomination certificates to all the aspirants would not be done until each and every appeal is heard and determined.

The Secretary General's decision had been necessitated by the overwhelming appeals that had been lodged at the appeals tribunal and did not want to disfranchise anyone.

Jubilee aspirants who were unopposed at the primaries were expected to collect their certificates on Friday, while those who went through the nomination exercise were to receive their certificates between April 29 and May 2.
