Jubilee party politicians have resorted to using unusual campaign materials including matchboxes, packed sugar and salt in a bid to woo voters as party primaries kick off today.
Incumbent Governor of Murang'a Mwangi wa Iria has used packets of certified planting seeds which he distributed to over 20,000 homes last month.
The Governor was criticised by his rivals for using county government funds to purchase the seeds, a move that he defended explaining that it was well within reason.
"There is nothing wrong with my picture being on the products supported by my administration," he told journalists.
Kiambu County senatorial aspirant Mungai Gathogo, a well-known Jubilee party enthusiast, has been handing out branded matchboxes and indicated that they would “light the fire” for his campaign pledges.
An initiative that was also used by his counterpart in Murang'a County Joseph Mbai who distributed them to over 200,000 households.
He asserted that the unique method made him known and boosted his candidature against the incumbent Deputy Speaker of the Senate Kembi Gitura.
Parliamentary hopeful for Bureti Constituency Kibet Kimingoi plastered branded stickers on packets of sugar and salt for his constituents.
The Bureti hopeful has also plastered the stickers on face towels and undergarments.
