Kenyans have in the last few days been raising queries regarding an NHIF card given by President Uhuru Kenyatta to football legend Joe Kadenge.
Many have been purporting that the card was not helpful to the ailing Kadenge since according to the Insurance Fund policies, the card becomes operational after a period of two months.
However, the bone of contention has now been clarified since the footballer received a special waiver and would start using the card the soonest possible.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, State House Director of Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi said the given card became operational the moment it was issued.
Itumbi dismissed the claims raised on social media, maintaining that Kadenge was free to receive exclusive medical cares without waiting for the 60-day period.
“The card applies from the time it was issued so he accesses healthcare without payment immediately. All these other things people are saying do not change facts,” stated Itumbi.
The State House Communications Director noted that Kadenge was set for an operation next week that would, in fact, be catered for by NHIF.
“Kadenge is scheduled for an eye operation within the next 10 days and it will be fully paid for by the card he was given by the President,” Itumbi affirmed.
On Sunday, Kenyatta accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta paid Kadenge a visit at his South B home where they left a couple of goodies.
The former footballer was given Sh2 Million as well as the NHIF card to cater for his and his wife's medical expenses.
In return, Kadenge gave Kenyatta and the First Lady a branded No.7 football Jersey, an autographed ball and a copy of his autobiography.
