Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe has now claimed that Opposition leaders formed the National Super Alliance (NASA) to dupe Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and ensure he never becomes the flagbearer.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Kagwe alleged that NASA was a selfish movement orchestrated to make ODM leader Raila Odinga the presidential candidate and lock Kalonzo out.
"Kalonzo was deceived in 2013 when they even reached an agreement where he would be the 2017 presidential flagbearer.
"He went round and convinced his people to vote for Cord but we can now see that his co-principals are selfish and have instead formed a new outfit to dupe Kalonzo," Kagwe said.
The senator went ahead and welcomed the former Vice President to Jubilee stating," we are all number one in the ruling coalition".
The Opposition recently launched NASA at the Bomas of Kenya where they announced that they would reveal the flagbearer at the end of February.
According to a source who spoke to a local daily, a team of 12 has been working on structures of NASA and the mode of picking the presidential candidate.
“The deliberations are almost complete. By next month, they will have agreed on a candidate to unveil to Kenyans next month. We know our supporters are anxious but we want to give them the best candidate,” the source disclosed.
On Tuesday, Kalonzo, who has been traversing the Ukamabani region on a voter mobilisation exercise, told Odinga and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to step aside so that he can lead the Opposition.
