Kalonzo's ID Number Used by Gatundu North Woman to Register as Voter

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was on Thursday left in utter shock after he discovered that he had been blocked from participating in the 2017 General Election.

Mr Musyoka, who had visited a registration centre in Wajir, curiously decided to verify his particulars in the Biometric Voter Register (BVR) only to find out that his ID number belongs to one Salome Wanjiru Njoroge, born in 1993.

The former Vice President raised the issue with the grave anomaly noting that if elections were held today he could not have participated.

Kalonzo could also have had difficulty vying in the polls since according to the Kenyan Law, one can also not contest for an elective seat if they are not duly registered as a voter.

The Wiper Party leader alleged that the error was part of a wider plan to rig the much-awaited elections through registration of voters using fake IDs.

FORD-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, who had accompanied Kalonzo, noted that: “Elections are not stolen in a single day. Rigging is a process and it involves dirty schemes of deleting people’s names from the register.”

Mr Musyoka complained over the fact that he would be forced to register again as a voter following the hiccup.

"It does not make sense to travel back home to register as a voter. Our people back home have sufficient numbers to elect their leaders. You should register here to vote for the leaders you want to lead you because this is where you live," he said.

Meanwhile, Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday conducted a background check confirming that Ms Salome was a voter registered in Gatundu North, Kiambu County with the former Vice President's ID number.
