KDF Kill "Innocent" Passengers

Two people were killed on Monday in Mandera Town  after a driver of a vehicle they were travelling in defied an order by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to stop.

According to Mandera County Commissioner Fredrick Shisia, the two were in a Toyota Probox before KDF rained shots on the car claiming that it had an explosive.

“The vehicle had an explosive detected by the military and we took no chances so we are investigating where they were heading to,” Mr Shisia said.

Three passers-by were also injured in the gunfire which occurred in the “Al shabaab prone area”. Residents in the area protested in town claiming the deceased were people known in the area and not militia men.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba condemned the attack stating that it was not necessary as there was no evidence of any explosive in the vehicle.

"The military claims there was an explosive device in the vehicle but the public denies this. I also went to the scene and from the ordinary look at the vehicle there was no explosive. The matter should be investigated,” said the Governor while speaking to Nation.
