KDF Soldiers Kill 70 Al Shabaab Terrorists, Defend Camp

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers killed over 70 Al Shabaab terrorists who attacked their military camp located in Kulbiyow, Somalia on Friday morning.

According to a press statement released by the Ministry of Defence, KDF soldiers repulsed the attackers and managed to defend the camp.

“A wave of terrorists supported by two vehicle-borne improvised explosives devices (VBIED) attempted to attack the camp but the attempt was unsuccessful due to fire from KDF troops in defensive positions.

“During the engagement, KDF lost two officers and seven servicemen. Fifteen KDF soldiers who were injured during the engagement have been evacuated to Defence Forces Memorial Hospital for further medical attention,” part of the statement read.

The Ministry further added that more soldiers had been sent to the camp to reinforce defence.

After the Friday morning attack, speculations were rife that the militia group had killed over 57 KDF soldiers and seized the camp.

However, Military Spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Njuguna refuted the claims stating that the soldiers repulsed the enemy before going after them in an intensive pacification mission.
