Kenya to Present Budget Proposals Earlier than June Because of Elections - Uhuru Announces

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that Kenya will present its budget proposals earlier than June because of the General Election that will be held on August 8.

Kenyatta said that Kenya would officially notify the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat of the same, adding that the Government was taking the measures to ensure the country’s operations are not hampered during the electioneering period.

EAC member countries have had a tradition of presenting their budgets simultaneously in June.

The President was speaking at State House on Friday when he held talks with the new East Africa Secretary-General Ambassador Libérat Mfumukeko.

Mr Kenyatta stated that Kenya would fully support reforms being undertaken by the EAC secretariat to cut down costs.

“Count on us, we are committed to EAC integration and we want you to succeed,” the President told Mr Mfumukeko.

Ambassador Mfumukeko said the EAC would send an observer mission to Kenya during the August 8 elections.

The EAC Secretary-General briefed the President on the reforms the secretariat is undertaking in a bid to cut costs and improve the ease of doing business in the region.
