Kenyan Doctor Linked to Al Shabaab Goes 'Missing'

The family of a doctor accused of funding Al-Shaabab activities has moved to court to have him released claiming their son was being held illegally.

Abadallah Waititu Iddi was reportedly taken into custody by security officers after they apprehended him at the Kangundo Level 4 Hospital in Machakos County where he worked.

Victor Olewe, the lawyer representing the family told High Court judge Isaac Lenaola that the family had not heard from Iddi since he was apprehended.

“It is now more than 17 days since he was arrested by security officers from his place of work at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital on April 4 and taken into custody. He has not been released either unconditionally, on police bond or presented before any court as per the Constitution as well as the laws of Kenya,” Olewe said.

The family sued the Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinett, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko and Attorney-General Githu Muigai for violating Mr Iddi's constitutional rights.

Mr Iddi's wife Ms Khadija Yakub Ali denied claims that her husband was involved in terror related activities as reported in a website.

The Kenyan government has remained strong in the fight against Al Shaabab, with President Uhuru Kenyatta vowing to continue the war against Somali-based militants after the attack of a Kenyan army base in El Adde, Somalia.
