A sombre mood engulfed residents of Maget Island in Siaya County on Wednesday afternoon after a local pastor brutally murdered a female church member and mutilated her genitals before he committed suicide.
Elisha Ogolla, 57, who is the pastor at Roho Fweny Church, is believed to have killed Linnet Onyango following a brief argument in his house.
Mr Ogolla was allegedly in an illicit affair with the deceased - a mother of six and a married woman - for a while before the church discovered and was about to punish him.
Confirming the incident, Area Chief Ambrose Ogema divulged that a church member had gone to see the Mr Ogolla before he saw blood flowing from his house which is close to the church.
“The deceased had gone to the priest's house at around 2 pm and it seems they had a quarrel before the priest brutally murdered her and mutilated her genitals,” Ogema stated.
The Chief stated that the pastor was found unconscious after members of the public managed to break his door and found the lifeless body of the woman.
“The priest was found lying unconscious on his coach with foam coming out of his mouth. We suspect he might have taken poison after killing the woman,” Ogema added.
Mr Ogolla died while he was being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Bondo OCPD Mr Paul Kiarie announced that they had launched investigations to know what transpired. The bodies were taken to Bondo Sub County hospital for post-mortem.
